Fuel Education Partner LearnBop Named 2015 SIIA CODiE Award Finalist
Expanded, More Robust Interactive Math Learning System to be Featured at National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Meeting and Exposition
HERNDON, Va., April 15, 2015—Personalized learning solutions provider Fuel Education (FuelEd™) is pleased to announce that exclusive partner LearnBop, an interactive math learning system, has been named a 2015 SIIA CODiE Award Finalist for Best Mathematics Instruction Solution. The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier award for the software and information industries, providing peer-recognition for product excellence for nearly 30 years.
For the 2015-2016 school year, LearnBop will be significantly expanded and enhanced to help more students learn fundamental math concepts step-by-step at their own pace. The changes include:
- Initially designed for grades 5-9, LearnBop will soon include math concepts spanning grades K–12. Using dynamic math problems—called Bops—LearnBop uses Socratic dialogue to teach students math concepts aligned to state and national standards. The supplemental system—which can be used in the classroom, in a computer lab, with laptop carts, at home, or during summer school—simulates the impact of one-on-one attention. For example, if a student asks for help or answers a question incorrectly, LearnBop breaks the larger problem down into smaller, more manageable steps, which is a proven technique for achieving mastery.
- LearnBop will have new diagnostic pre-assessments that identify gaps in a student’s prior knowledge, and then assigns Bops based on those gaps. Post-assessments provide effective Response to Intervention (RTI) tools, measuring a student’s mastery of concepts to ensure that they are prepared for state and other high-stakes exams.
- LearnBop will incorporate new item types that require students to demonstrate their knowledge. For example, they may have to draw a graph, rather than attempt to select the correct answer from multiple choices. Not only are these new item types more engaging, they also are a better measure of how well students are grasping concepts.
- LearnBop is aligned with three of the most widely used textbooks. For schools that want to integrate LearnBop into their curriculum as homework, extra practice, or in class activities, it is now aligned with Glencoe Math, Digits, and Big Ideas Math.

“By expanding grade level content and providing new ways to address knowledge gaps, we are able to empower more educators to help their students catch up or get ahead in math no matter their current level of proficiency,” said Bharanidharan Rajakumar, LearnBop’s Founder. “Providing Fuel Education’s school and district partners with data and unique learning experiences to ensure that every student succeeds in math now is critical for helping them achieve their college and career goals of the future.”
LearnBop is part of math instruction in more than 350 schools in 17 states, where students are seeing remarkable gains. After one year, 96 percent of students who used LearnBop on a weekly basis at Brooklyn, New York’s Middle School #385 passed the state math exam – up from just 25 percent who passed the prior year.
